The University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca organizes an MA program with a duration of 2 years whose mission is the formation of the performance levels in the field and of the specialists integrated in the contemporary art forms.

Expanding the professional experience obtained within an artistic specialization's area through a deep feel out of the conceptual and/or technical, stylistic conections.

Surpassing the limits of the specialization through an experimental engagement free from the artistic limitations (according to the art. 7 from the Law 84/1995 graduates from other disciplines can also apply for the MA program).
The program has also as a mission assuring a high standard in preparing the professional activity by encouraging:
- the responsability in developing the personal projects in connection with the actual tendencies;
- the development of the interdisciplinary and intermedia projects;
- the development of the experimental practice by the good use of the diverse materials, techniques and equipments in order to open new directions in the creative assertion;
- the development of a critical apparatus of analyzing and comenting the artistic production.

The fundamental premise of the MA program is based on the idea that the visual production certifies its status through the interaction at the theoretical and critical level with the profound changes that determine the visual culture. The MA program offers the chance of approaching all the contemporary art's practical forms and of an interdisciplinary theoretical and practical research in order to prepare the career of the future professional artist, curator or art manager.

MA 2009: The MA program - fine arts, decorative arts and design – sculpture

1. Presentation
The sculpture department is part of the painting, sculpture and conservation-restoration cathedra within the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca.
The study program of the sculpture department aims to give specificity and authenticity to the "school of sculoture" within the art university in Cluj-Napoca. The dynamic of these changes is possible due to the collaboration between the students and the professors according to the artistic, historic, social and cultural influences on a national and international level.
2. The program's mission and objectives
Mission
The sculpture MA program's mission is to offer a high quality education to all the students willing to undertake a career in the artistic field or connected with this.
The program's mission is:
1. to organize a student centered education;
2. to promote the education and the research according to the demands of a society based on knowledge, continuous education and integration in the European and international circuit;
3. to sustain a frame of specific multicultural interference using the national and universal patrimony and the traditions.
Objectives
The sculpture MA program aims to develop the following fundamental values:
- to offer the students the posibility of developing their potential as independent professional artists in a multidisciplinary society and culture, in a creative atmosphere;
- to promote the graduates who have obtained the essential knowledge and information and the important professional and research abilities;
- to develop the student's understanding of the cultural, historic, theoretical and professional context that forms and influences the practice in the field;
- to analyze the concepts operating in the field of the visual arts generally and in the field of sculpture especially;
- to initiate the students in the problems of the languages theories, of the form's psychology, of the natural laws governing the form's development, as well as of the forms and styles in sculpture;
- to develop critical and self-critical abilities.
3. Competencies
Knowledge competencies:
- the capacity to work with the specific theoretical terms;
- knowledge in the field of art history and art theory, aesthetic;
- the ability to theoretically communicate the concepts of the own creation.
Professional competencies:
- practical abilities and the knowledge of the visual language specific to the field of sculpture;
- practical abilities regarding the techniques in working with the specific materials for the sculpture - wood, stone, metal as well as non-conventional materials;
- the capacity of making at a professional level the works specific to the sculpture's genre: portrait, small sculptures, medals, environment sculpture, figurative sculpture and sculpture for public spaces.
4. The educational process' content
Within the sculpture department the 1st and the 2nd year of the MA program are seen as steps in the gradual development of the student's knowledge and competencies according to the changes and the regulations of the Bologna Process in collaboration with the valuable experience of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca and the preservation of the specific elements of the Romanian art education.

MA 2009: The MA program - fine arts, decorative arts and design – photo-video-digital image processing

1. Mission and objectives
The photo-video-digital image processing specialization prepares highly qualified specialists in the field of arts usign the instruments and the expressions of the technical image.
The program seeks to extend and to improve the professional experience in the field of the photo-video-digital image processing obtained during the BA years and to investigate new conceptual and technical connections.
The department's curricula was restructered according to the newest tendencies, methods and principles in the field, the tradition being completed by studies and models of professional higher education in Europe.
2. The curricula's content
The fundamental premise of the MA program is based on the idea that the visual production certifies its status through the interaction between the theory and critic. The curricula is structured as follows:
Mandatory theoretical program aiming:
- the fundamental theoretical synthesis' problems (communication and language, art and anthropology, art and technology, art and sociology)
- the conceptual investigation in the visual arts, art management
- the development of a personal critical apparatus of analyzing the advanced tendencies in the field (dissertation)
Optional theoretical program: artistic experience, cultural interferences
Research program specialized in obtaining the professional competencies through professional practice, experimental practice and the use of the different techniques and equipments specific to the field (advanced exploration in photo-video-digital image processing, experimental techniques, alternative projects for photo-video-digital image processing, preparing the MA dissertation).

1. Mission and objectives
The MA program in ceramic-glass aims to prepare highly qualified specialists in the field of ceramic and glass.
The department's curricula has been restructured according to the newest tendencies, methods and principles of the field and the departmwnt's tradition has been completed with some models of professional education from the Great Britain, Italy and Canada. The actual curricula gives a wide range of theoretical and practical disciplines destined to assure a high standard of artistic and professional education in the field of ceramic and glass. The conception in making the MA program is based on a model consisting of the previous curricula, aiming few fundamental coordinates:
1. Diversifying the thematic profile of the discipline and its structuring in study modules that permit the gradual conceptual and practical asimilation of the creative activities within the field.
2. Reevaluatin the importance of the formative process in projecting the decorative structures destined to enhance the environment's beauty.
3. Promoting the research in the field.
4. Introducing classes with an experimental character: instalation, intermedia
5. Assuring a theoretical program aiming both fundamental theoretical problems and analyzing the culture specific to the field.

The studies within the MA program are based on individual research projects that generate new conceptual connections in the field.

1. the projection of decoratice, ornamental structures in 3D destined to enhance the environment's aesthetic.
2. experimenting special ceramic materials compatible with the offer for monumental and public space works.
3. advanced techniques in the artistic and industrial shaping based on plaster, metal, wood and synthetic material stamps.
4. techniques of blowing, pouring, melting in shapes and assambling of the stained-glass.
5. enamel decorative compositions.
6. decoration techniques for pottery and poured ornamental objects.
7. archaelogical and artistic restoration of the ceramic and glass objects.
8. technological competencies regarding the ceramic colours' chemistry and the termotechnique.
c) Communication competencies
3. The curricula
The fundamental values promoted by the MA program in ceramic-glass are: imagination, investigation, intuition and practical initiative, critical evaluation, dialogue capacity and professional conscience, communication, public manifestation. The ceramic-glass MA program's curricula aims the following aspects:
- the relation between the mandatory disciplines (theoretical and practical), optional and of specialty in order to obtain a bigger formative efficiency.
- reshuffle the thematic profile of certain disciplines in order to open new semantic corridors in research.
- to introduce new classes in order to complete de basic formation, assuring a supplementary cultural, technological and chemical initiation.

1. Mission and objectives
Linia de studii de Masterat Design vestimentar, pregateste specialisti cu inalta calificare profesionala pentru Design vestimentar, care:
sa dobandeasca si sa afirme o viziune proprie asupra profesiunii alese,
sa dea dovada de creativitate si mobilitate in promovarea propriului concept artistic si de design,
sa demonstreze aptitudini pentru cercetare specifice domeniului, intelegand si adaptand metodologiile de cercetare,
in conditiile pastrarii unui interes constant fata de creatia contemporana majora in domeniu.
Misiunea programului Masterat in Design vestimentar:
Programul promoveaza principiul predarii si invatarii bazate pe metodologiile si practica cercetarii, ca fundamente ale unui mediu educational creativ. Scopul nostru este ca studentii sa devina, progresiv, tot mai responsabili si activi in relatia cu practica si cercetarea de specialitate, fiind capabili sa inteleaga si sa genereze si sa conduca activitati specifice conform unor proiecte si planificari prealabile.
Programul de doi ani, nivel Masterat, este fundamentat pe faptul ca dezvoltarea individuala a studentului, se bazeaza pe angajarea sa intelectuala si practica in relatie cu ideile, mediile si contextul socio-cultural si antreprenorial. Abilitatile teoretice si practice vor fi integrate cu acelea istorice si teoretice, formarea contribuind astfel la dezvoltarea unei capacitati creative si critice si la intelegerea evolutiei practicii domeniului.
Studiile din programul de masterat se desfasoara pe baza unor proiecte de cercetare prezentate la admitere, generatoare de exersare a practicii de cercetare pe baza de proiect, completate de obligativitatea dezvoltarii unui plan de cercetare si a unei disertatii relevante pentru domeniu.
Programul de Master in Design Vestimentar se concentreaza pe dezvoltare profesionala si reflectie. Acest nivel dezvolta urmatoarele competente generale:
dezvoltarea si reflectia critica asupra metodologiilor, a metodelor si proceselor de lucru
dezvoltarea de criterii pentru evaluarea si stabilirea prioritatilor in cadrul proiectarii si activitatii desfasurate.
dovedirea unei competente profesionale demonstrate procesual
abilitatea de a contextualiza practica proprie si de a-si articula pozitia proprie in campul artei, designului, culturii.
dobandirea de abilitati de cercetare.
Programul de studiu se afla intr-o continua evolutie; el depinde de interactiunea dintre studenti si profesori si influentele mediului artistic, social, antreprenorial, istoric sau cultural. Acesta isi propune sa pregateasca absolventi care sa traiasca si sa gandeasca creativ, contribuind la bunastarea culturala si economica a comunitatii.
Urmarim dezvoltarea unei bune legaturi cu mediile profesionale, cu companii, firme si organizatii, preocupati de insertia profesionala a studentilor si absolventilor nostri.
Scopurile programului de studii sunt :
De a oferi studentilor posibilitatea de a-si dezvolta deplin potentialul ca designeri si artisti profesionisti independenti sau integrati unor colective multidisciplinare de creatie, intr-o atmosfera de inovatie si cercetare creativa.
A produce absolventi care au incredere in alegerea profesiunii, care au dobandit cunostinte si informatii esentiale si aptitudini importante profesionale si de cercetare.
Sa adecveze continuu continuturile teoretice, tematica si activitatile si metodologia cercetarii la actualitatea si perspectivele evolutiei domeniului de specializare.
Dezvoltarea intelegerii studentului fata de contextul cultural, istoric, teoretic, profesional, care formeaza si influenteaza practica domeniului. Sa dezvolte capacitatile critice si autocritice, precum si pe acelea de comunicare.
Sa se asigure ca studentul intelege deplin programul in care e angajat si ii e clar ceea ce i se cere.
Programul urmareste dezvoltarea unei unitati proprii de cercetare si creatie artistica si functionarea integrata intr-un mediu de cercetare, reunind tematici, parteneri institutionali si profesionali, laboratoare, directii si grupuri de cercetare.

Parcurgerea si absolvirea Modulului de pregatire pedagogica, asigura absolventilor nostri calificarea nationala pentru profesia de
Profesor de educatie vizuala pentru invatamantul primar, mediu si liceal.
Cunostintele dobandite la finalizarea programului se refera la:
familiarizarea cu cele mai noi si avansate dezvoltari in domeniu
abilitati de cercetare independenta
capacitatea de a reactiona pozitiv si a aplica teoria in situatii noi sau neprevazute
acumularea unei cantitati substantiale de cunostinte noi
intelegerea perspectivei dezvoltarii domeniului si a oportunitatilor de cercetare si directiilor prioritare
intelegerea continuitatii intre traditie si inovatie in domeniu
Competentele se refera la :
capacitatea de a crea si prezenta lucrari
culegere, analiza si interpretare de date si informatii din punct de vedere cantitativ si calitativ, din diverse surse alternative, din contexte profesionale concrete si din literatura in domeniu, pentru formularea de argumente, decizii si demersuri concrete;
aplicarea creativa a metodologiilor si tehnicilor de cercetare
abilitatea de a se confrunta, intelege si rezolva probleme
elaborarea de planuri, studii si rapoarte aplicabile in profesie, de a comunica rezultate si interactiona cu audiente diverse
asumarea responsabilitatii de a dezvolta un program personal de autoperfectionare, relevant pentru propria practica si dezvoltarea acesteia, precum si pentru practica altora;
conceperea si conducerea proceselor specifice domeniului.
3. Dezvoltarea curriculum-ului
Intocmirea sau modificarea curriculumului Programului de studii de Masterat in Design vestimentar se realizeaza periodic, de regula odata pe an, inainte de inceperea noului an universitar. Modificarile se fac dupa analizele semestriale si anuale, dupa consultarea coordonatorilor de discipline si a studentilor, la propunerea colectivelor specializarilor si catedrelor, de catre sefii de catedre, dupa aprobarile Consiliilor pe Facultate si Senatului universitatii, pe baza Regulamentului privitor la initierea, aprobarea, monitorizarea si evaluarea periodica a programelor de studii.
Continutul curriculumului poate fi modificat si de reglementarile comisiilor de specialitate ale Ministerului Educatiei si Cercetarii, prin Ordine ale Ministrului.
Curriculumul Programului de studii de Masterat in Design vestimentar este rezultatul unui proces si experiente care imbina preocuparea de a asigura continuturile si competentele necesare formarii profesionistilor in domeniu, in contextul valorificarii experientei valoroase a dezvoltarii specializarii la Universitatea de Arta si Design din Cluj-Napoca, simultan cu implementarea reformelor procesului Bologna. O preocupare constanta este utilizarea elementelor importante specifice actualitatii si exigentelor de perspectiva ale societatii romanesti, precum si contextul si experienta valoroasa a invatamantului european de profil. Conceperea curriculumului este orientata spre nevoile studentului.
Curriculumul programului de masterat ofera conditiile pentru dezvoltarea unei experiente practice creative in profunzimea specializarii si cercetarea problematicii actuale a disciplinei studiate.
Valorile fundamentale care stau la baza programului de studii: imaginatie, speculatie, experimentare, orientare spre student, chestionare, investigare, provocare, autodirectionare, motivatie, independenta, responsabilitate, initiativa practica, capacitate de a produce si a rezolva probleme, comunicare, manifestare publica, conceptualizare, evaluare, reflectie critica, capacitate de dialog, contextualizare, constiinta sociala profesionala/antreprenoriala si culturala.
