Mission

The department of sculpture theoretically and practically trains the students in the general field of sculpture. The curricula follows pedagogical principles and practical training methods which respect the tradition of the school of sculpture in Cluj. The academic framework aims the fundamental and specific trening taiking into consideration: acquiring of practical skills regarding the process of perception-representation-interpretation; the knowledge of the visual language’s grammar and vocabulary in the field of sculpture; the development of creative skills; the assimilation of techical knowledge necessary in processing the materials which are specific to the classical, modern or post-modern sculpture.
The years of studies begin with an intensive training concerning the practising of the practical skills, aiming to prepare the student for the control of the creative act; in the end the emphasis falls on the making of expresive configurations and on the development of individual creative skills.
The mandatory practical disciplines consist of exercices that cover the problems of the major sculpture gendre: small sculptures, portrait, figurative sculpture of public forum, environmental sculpture.

Endowment

The sculpture department has study halls for drawing and modelling – aproximatelly 5m²/student – as well as laboratories for: non-ferrous metal pouring; metal processing; carving. There are specific equipments at the students’ disposal: angular grinder, electrical saw, soldering equipment, compressor for pneumatic tools, bore machines, forge, etc.
