Mission

The department’s mission is to form specialists in the field of painting and mural painting (lay or religious), in the field of conservation-restoration of the mural art and easel painting, as well as to prepare future teachers/professors. The departments’ graduates obtain competencies in different traditional and contemporary techniques of the mural painting such as: byzantine fresco, occidental fresco, tempera al secco, the oil techniques of the mural painting, sgraffitto, mozaic, stained-glass, acrylic and vynil, mixed and contemporary techniques. The students from the conservation-restoration department are trained in the field of the conservation and restoration of the mural and easel painting: fresco restoration, wooden or glass icon restoration, oil painting restoration, tempera etc., on steady or mobile support.

The conservation-restoration department shares the space of teaching/learning of the drawing and of the colour study with the painting/mural painting dpartment. Concerning the teaching of subjects as investigation methods, artistic techniques, conservation-restoration methodologies, the department has its own building. The laboratory investigations allow the UV and IR analysis, the microscope analysis, giving the student the chance of getting familiar with the equipments and the laboratory procedures. The techniques studio allows the understanding and making of the painting on wood, of the afresco painting and also of the oil on canvas painting, having as a goal the application of the treatment specific to the different painted surfaces. The students and the professors can use a multifuctional hall for conferences, seminars. They can also work in a multimedia studio having acces to the internet, as well as in a room for consultations.
The conservation-restoration specialization has a surface of 90 m², divided in studios, distributed to the years of studies, in teachers’ room, storehouse and laboratories having specific equipments.
