Mission

The design department considers design and the designer profession capable and indebted to contribute to the developing of the individual and collective quality of life, susceptible to become a force of positive changing in economy, society, culture and environment. Therefore, the didactic activity of the department is based upon a curricula elaborated in order to cover all the national necessities in the field of the product's creation and of the graphic design.
The department's purpose is to train the students for a professional career in the field of industrial product's design, of the environment's design and of the graphic design, also to be capable to anticipate and to answer the complex needs from the economic and social field, to take responsibilities in their profession, to promote the profession in the field where it should function and not to become unemploied.
We think that an important goal of the teaching activity is that of forming complex qualities, capable to create a relation between art and technique in order to make an artistic object, but cultural and technical in the same time.
Another level of the teaching activity within the department is the habit-forming instruction in order to shape the students' conscience about design being helpful in promoting art's, culture's and industry's image on a national level and the national image on an international level (through exports), considering the design's object capable to transmit a complex, direct and representative message.

Endowment

The department has an entire building downtown Cluj, where the students' activity is taking place. The surface is divided in workshops and laboratories as follows: 6 workshops for each year of studies; a computer lab; a photo lab; a mechanical workshop for making the models.
