PhD level
Starting with the university year 2003-2004, the University of Arts and Design Cluj-Napoca offers the Ph.D. cycle of studies. The Ph.D. base on scientific creation and artistic creation of value has as goal the accomplishment of a specialized research, with the guidance of a professor, or main 1st degree researcher , who is certified as a scientific advisor. The Ph.D. program at UAD Cluj-Napoca can be done part-time also. The duration of the Ph.D. defined as the period between the admission dare and the date of the maintenance of the Ph.D. thesis is 3 years. In special cases, the duration can be prolonged by 1-2 years in the conditions previewed by law. The Ph.D. program part-time is organized only in taxed regime. The two component of the university cycle of Ph.D. – the advanced studies program ( duration 2 semesters) and the scientific researches program ( 4 semesters) – are mandatory for both forms of study. The Ph.D. is finalized with a publicly maintained thesis. The title of Ph.D. in Arts has to be confirmed by the Committee of Titles, Diplomas and Academic Certificates.

Strategic objectives

For the consolidation and development of the Ph.D. at the UAD Cluj-Napoca as a higher form of post-graduation training the following are planed:

- the periodic evaluation of the quality of the activity done by the Ph.D. advisor, and of the Ph.D. candidates also
- the extension of the range of specialization in which the Ph.D. at the UAD Cluj-Napoca is organized by the granting of the right to advise the Ph.D. to didactic staff and to young artist also, who have through remarkable results have gained the appreciation of renown figures in the country or abroad
- general training of the Ph.D. will be made during the probation period using courses specially organized modularly, this activity being evaluated in ECTS
- post- Ph.D. positions will be assigned in the Excellency Centers, positions acceptable by the specialists with the title of Ph.D. outside of UAD Cluj-Napoca
- Ph.D. thesis’s and artistic work will be made on electronic support and broadcaster by the Internet
